The Laban Syndrome

This book will unmask the Laban syndrome at work in your life. It is a spirit working through the personality and choices of people; it works through your soul. It works through the things that appeal to you and the way you go about life.

The Laban syndrome wants to prevent you from getting everything that God has for you and fulfilling the reason why you were born. It will try to direct and manipulate what God has declared over you, so as to avert you from becoming all of what God has planned for you.

Laban will always want to control your future, your destiny and your assignment.

The Laban syndrome is all about humans; the choices we make and what we create in the world system.

You will be faced with choices in this book – choices that will allow you to become free from the system of the world, transforming you into the covenant child God has destined you to be.

Let this book be the revolution in your heart, to bring about drastic change to your life.

How did the book minister to you, and what impact has it had on you?

When Pastor John taught about the Laban Syndrome, I never understood it one bit. But reading this book now, I have a much clearer understanding of it, where I’m operating in it, and where it’s trapped me.

While reading it, I had to stop myself at times from condemning myself, but seeing what confronted me as a place to grow.

Reading this helped me realise things I didn’t notice before. It’s not always easy to admit when something has been holding you back, especially when it’s something you’ve gotten used to.

In the beginning of Chapter 7, Pastor John is talking about getting out of your comfort zone, and that it doesn’t mean you’re not at peace when you aren’t in your comfort zone and the book helped me see that stepping out of what feels ‘safe’ doesn’t mean I’m not in God’s peace.

I’m learning that being uncomfortable doesn’t mean something is wrong—it might just mean I’m growing. Instead of feeling guilty or blaming myself, I’m starting to see those hard places as chances to learn and change. It’s helping me to understand where I’ve been stuck and how I can move forward and get unstuck.

Questions

Question 1:

Where have you spotted Laban Syndrome in your own life?

When I’m in a confrontational situation with two people that have different viewpoints and they want me to give an input, and because I’m the kind of person who doesn’t do too well with confrontation, I become neutral to keep the “peace” and give both of them an answer that they want to hear.

Question 2:

What key events in your life have you recognised as part of God’s constellation for you?

Last year (2024), I was part of the 2024 IXchange intake, but because of some health issues, I had to go home. That was hard for me, and honestly, I wasn’t happy about it at all. But now, I’m part of the 2025 intake because of that choice. Looking back, I truly believe it was part of God’s plan, because the things I’ve seen happen for me—and to me—this year (2025) have been nothing short of amazing.

Favourite Quote

“During this time of transition in your life, you may begin to feel uncomfortable, but you cannot confuse being out of your comfort zone with a lack of peace. God requires you to step out of your comfort zone so He can change you. Why does he want you to change? So that you can live in the blessing zone.

When you step out of your comfort zone, you step towards your redemption. The moment you fall back on your comfort zone, you enslave yourself once again to your natural world and to Laban. You cannot quit on your faith with God when circumstances hit you square in the face. The is no shortcut to being free; God is going to challenge you to go to a higher level in Him.

You have to trust God, and you have to live by your faith if you want to live in God’s constellation for you and not in the ways of the world. You may find yourself confronting the things of your past, but your confidence must be in “God is with me,” and you have to keep on moving forward. The source of your future lies in the blessings of God, not in your past.

Don’t go to past experiences, old ways of thinking, and habits of how you used to do things – your past should not impact your future experiences. The enemy always wants to take you back to your failures and remind you of those past experiences to bring back hurt and distrust, because he wants to keep you in the process of defeat, so that you can’t go to victory.

We must seek our future in Jesus and in the Word of God.”
